Coastal Light Vessel Ministry started in 2022 to be the light and love of Christ to people living in remote, off-grid places on the coast of British Columbia, Canada. It is faith-building and praise-inspiring to see what God has done in these two years!
From just Catherine Buschhaus as the captain charting the course, there is now a full-time engineer and a team of eight short-term crew. There have been over half-a-dozen reconnaissance voyages to make connections and explore where God is opening doors. One open door was in a cove where we “just happened” to drop anchor for the night because it was a convenient distance from our next destination. A lady waved from shore as we went by in the skiff.
This led to a two-hour tour of the garden and wood-fired pottery studio, and an invitation to come back next time for supper. God is at the helm! This spring the vessel was hauled out for a major refit to redo the hull coatings, a once-every-two-decades job involving sandblasting right down to steel. We also sanded down and re-coated the above-water paint. What for? We trust God wants to use this vessel for another twenty-plus years of ministry on the coast.
After seeing the vessel relaunched, the engineer got down on one knee and asked the captain to launch another ship, a relation-ship. We were wed on June 23rd with all our church and Coastal Light family present. And as you might expect from two people who are following Jesus in missions on the coast, we had our wedding photos in a little boat.
Coastal Light started by the grace of God, and we continue the course by the grace of God. His works are wonderful, we know that full well (Psalm 139).
