On February 24th, when Russia launched a military attack against Ukraine, people from the war zones began flooding into Poland—mainly women, children and elderly. Our God, who foreknew all of this (what humans would choose to do to other humans) had already put His people into place to catch these traumatized and terrified families and provide shelter, food and necessities. Poles awoke and opened their homes, churches, and even offices as makeshift shelters. People from western countries seeing the pictures of weeping mothers with babies began giving generously to provide for the needs of these people who left everything behind. We, along with missionaries around us, received this funding and began renting apartments, houses, hostels and even hotels that had closed during covid to house as many refugees as possible.

Now, over nine months later, we all continue in God’s strength to provide for the most vulnerable of refugees. As cold weather approaches and homes in Ukraine lack heat and electricity because of the destruction of infrastructure, we are expecting another flood of refugees escaping the bitter cold of winter and the possible continuation of civilian targeted bombings. Yet in all of this chaos, God’s hand is so clearly moving. People who left Ukraine as atheists—now have a relationship with the Living God! The Gospel is being shared with families who are open and desperate for hope! We are surrounded by displaced people… but God is populating heaven!
